Survival Training Camp (STC) and Adventure Training Camp (ATC) 2008

This year, the sec 3 cadets are experiencing a brand new camp, the “Survival Camp”. Everyone was eager to find out what it’s like. Not just the cadets, even the teachers are wondering how excited it may be. When I thought of survival camp , I would relate it to survival skills in jungle, would they be thrown into the jungle and need to topo their way out of the place? Would they learn how to kill chicken and snake and quench their thirst with their blood? Would they learn how to set fire without the use of matches or lighter? Hmm… Come to think of it, I think these are too much or too high a level for the cadets haha… (I’m definitely not implying that they are stupid). There is just too much suspense.

When we reached Ubin, the sec 3 have to gather in the basketball court in their groups. What they have to do was to visit some checkpoints and then topo their way back to the NPCC campsite. I’m surprise that some of them dono how to walk to the campsite!! Next time, we should walk in and out of the campsite. Don’t you agree people. =P Anyway, the sec 2 cadets have to walk into the campsite. It has always been a tradition and we shall let it remains.
When they reached the campsite, they are expected to unpitch the tents that were pitched for the National Camp campers. They have to clean the tents before they can keep them. After that they had camp ration as their dinner in the training shed. The TOs had ration for the first dinner TOO!! I paid $50 to eat rations!! In the night, the sec 3 cadets went over to Camp Bahru (where the sec 2 cadets are) for their camp fire preparation. There was nothing much for the first night. I shouldn’t have asked so many TOs to come over. I’m really sorry if you are reading this . But the PRCS TOs are really GREAT. We stay thru the 3D2N camp. 3 Cheers for the TOs of PRCS!!
The second day was slightly interesting. I woke up quite early to finish up some school work with my laptop. Later in the afternoon, the groups participated in different activities, namely trust walk, jetty jump, fire starting and some initiative games. I still looked forwards to the rope elements which has been always a highlight for the pass ATC. However, so sad, it was under maintenance. I moved around, from Camp Nordin to Bahru and Nordin again… The weather was hot, that probably explained why I start to get my usual headache again.

When I was in Bahru, I was rather disappointed with the sight of the sec 2 cadets. They were really lethargic. The don seem to be interested. Hai.. Nowadays, children…. Hope they enjoy the activity generally. So sec 2, you better be more proactive and enthusiastic in future. That’s the kind of spirit I wanna see in Grizzly!!! You have been with me for a year, I would really wanna see you grow into leader in future, Please do not disappoint me..

The 2nd night was the Campfire. I really love to join them. However, my head was spinning, I left the campfire half way thru’. (Better then vomiting onto the back of AC, haha… ) But I knew the boys had done a great job. Great work guys… I felt better after I had a rest, went to take bath and have a chat with some of those cadets who sleep in the hall because their tents were being infested with ants. I’m really glad to hear that the Sec 3 cadets enjoy the camp. They have matured being NCOs… Keep it up.

The last day was fast. Left the camp at about 11am. Good new, STC Best Camper was SEAN YU!! Good work. Group 3 & 4 got Best Campfire Presentation.. They deserve their rewards…
